A stunning example of early-American print art!
Mark Hall-Patton instantly recognized this as the third variation of the famous "Washington Family" print originally created in 1798. This version by Kellogg & Thayer, a contemporary of Currier & Ives, is unique in it has an additional image in the upper left corner depicting a younger Martha Washington and daughter.
In it's original, 200-year old, wood backed frame, this piece exhibits the wear expected from it's age and wood-acid based framing. It has not been altered so the purchaser can make the final decision whether to conserve it or leave as is. Water damage is present in certain spots but does not detract from the image.
Washington, though in his post-presidency is portrayed still in his military uniform. A stunning piece from the earliest days of our nation!
Frame measures 16.5" by 12.5".
